This 1988 BMW M3 shows just under 139k miles and power comes from the stock 2.3-liter S14 inline-four paired to a Getrag 265 5-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. The compact, high-revving engine features Bosch ML-Motronic fuel injection and produced 192 horsepower when new. The prior owner acquired the car in 2009 from a member of the armed forces stationed in North Carolina and subsequently moved it to Maryland. He had the car repainted in the correct Alpineweiss, and then shipped it to VSR for a mechanical refresh.
The engine was rebuilt by Vintage Sports & Restoration (VSR) in Bedford, New Hampshire and the transmission was also resealed. Photos of the work are available. The exhaust system has been upgraded with a VSR center section that is fitted to the stock muffler. An interior refurbishment was also completed along with refinishing of the stock 15 wheels, and Euro bumpers were added. Included records date back to 2002, and the car is now being sold with a clean Carfax on a clean Maryland title.
The car was repainted in the factory Alpine White (146) color in 2015 at a cost of $7k. Some normal wear and a few blemishes are present in the finish. Rust repairs to the roof and cowl were performed when the car was repainted. Exterior modifications include a European-spec front bumper with tow hook covers, Euro rear bumper, and a genuine EVO 3 rear spoiler with flap. Many exterior trim pieces were replaced, and new fog lights were installed. Refinished 15 BBS wheels wear BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires. Inside, the front and rear seats have been recovered in black leather from a Creative Options kit. FatMat sound deadening material was installed underneath new carpet that is slightly darker than the original color, and the headliner was replaced with a reproduction unit from Maximillian Importing.
The A/C system has been refreshed with new parts and works well. A cruise control unit is included but is not installed, and an Alpine head unit was fitted. The lights, power accessories, and VDO gauges are working. A large collection of service records dates back to 2002 and includes most of the work performed under prior ownership.
